SETUP REDUCTION Training

ARE YOU EXPERIENCING ANY OF THESE CHALLENGES?
Operating in low-volume environment with multiple products?
Customers demanding, "Better, Faster, Cheaper?"
Marketplace for your product becoming more competitive?
Tight cash situation forcing you to cut costs by carrying less inventory?
Switching production from one product to another requires a long set up to prepare equipment and workstations?
Processes currently require large production batches to save on setup?
…If the answer is "Yes," then MMEC's Setup Reduction training may be what you need.

COURSE INFORMATION
PREREQUISITE: None. However, participants may benefit more from this training after taking the Lean Manufacturing workshop and simulation and Value Stream Mapping.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Setup reduction is a process improvement activity targeted at reducing the amount of time and effort required to change over production from one product to another. Setup reduction facilitates smaller batch sizes without increased costs.

This course will teach you how to achieve quick changeover by analyzing setup and changeover processes and then identifying waste and non-value added activities that can be reduced or eliminated. The course will discuss how to calculate a reduced economic order quantity based on changeover and inventory carrying costs. Participants will become familiar with setup reduction techniques and various tools & equipment (carts, software, clamps, holding devices, CNC machines, lasers) which can aid the setup reduction process. An actual equipment changeover process will be videotaped and analyzed by participants in an effort to apply knowledge to an actual setup reduction challenge.

Respond faster to customer needs from shortened lead times.
Enhance customer relationships by being more responsive to customer demand.
Lower production costs.
Increase production flexibility and production capacity.
Reduce batch sizes for reduced floor inventory and space requirements.
Improve quality and reduce scrap as a result of earlier recognition of of product defects from reduced batch sizes.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE: Manufacturing/shop floor management/supervisors, production staff/team leaders/equipment operators.

COURSE LENGTH & FORMAT: 4 Hours; classroom presentation and plant floor event applying setup reduction principles and problem solving to a video-taped or observed equipment setup operation.
For actual plant floor observation involving more than one company, a participating manufacturer would agree to host the onsite activity.

CLASS SIZE GUIDELINES:
Public Event: 10 minimum
Private Company Event: Variable (depending on internal demand)
